September 2008
The new term will start on 21st September at the village hall.
See below for the first half’s provisional programme.
Last year’s sessions of the club have been a success and we have several regular members as well as many who come to most sessions.
The walls were scaled at the nearby indoor centre and all members had a good time. There are several who could audition for the next Spiderman movie and it’s pleasing that some of the members have returned to hone their skills further. The Youth club hopes to provide ideas and opportunities for members to try out new pastimes.
The Navigation orienteering and initiative exercises were well attended and whilst we can be confident Buzzers can extract themselves and a stretcher from a minefield I’m not sure their compass work is yet up to getting them home afterwards.
The Quiz and treasure hunt showed knowledge and observation skills and anagrammatical skills are well-represented and particular thanks go to Charlotte Gentry as quiz mistress.
The Barbeque and games afternoon with the Church saw over 60 participants consume burgers, chicken sausages and assorted salads. The social committee from All Saints organised the food and the Youth club provided the charbroiler. No complaints on the tummy ache front!
The Sleepover at Adams Well.
What can we say; fun, raucous, tiring, and entertaining. This was a huge success though not knowing about a curfew meant some neighbours were inadvertently disturbed, nothing too bad and no ASBO’s issued.
The Jamboree with water wars, custard pie fighting and games was, as you would expect, very messy but great fun and a good end to the year.
We will restart on the third Sunday in September and hope to welcome a new intake as well as rekindle friendships.
We have a few new helpers but still need more adults who would like to help. We’d be delighted to see you, you can help as often as you wish or whenever you have a couple of hours on a Sunday evening. Come along and see what’s involved. If anyone has any particular skills that could be demonstrated to the members and who could give up an hour or two please let us know.
We have a provisional programme dependent on the weather and availability
21st September Registration and games
28th September Indoor and outdoor activities
5th October Climbing and rock skills
12th October Hall activities
19th October Trampoline skills
26th October Swimming night
We also propose to have a Halloween/Guy Fawkes evening, night stalking, a concert party for Christmas and possibly a carol singing by candle light around parts of Langton.
Unfortunately we may have to restrict numbers but the more helpers we have the more young people can join.
All the leaders are looking forward to the new session and we hope you are too. Rob Stewart Langton Buzz Co-ordinator 862040
