Neighbourhood Watch
Neighbourhood
Watch in Langton Green is affiliated to the West Kent Neighbourhood
Watch Association covering the area of the West Kent Police.
Neighbourhood Watch (NHW) is a way of developing close liaison
between households and the local police. The aim is to help
people protect themselves, their properties, improve security
and enhance vigilance and the fostering of a neighbourly,
caring spirit in communities.
Peter Brown is the village coordinator leading 17 coordinators
who individually look after their own road or Close varying
from as few as 6 households up to over 100. The areas covered
are:

You will get a lot of help setting up.
What do coordinators do?
- Keep residents informed of crime in the area. Information
is gained from the police liaison officer and other official
sources.
- Warn about scams and repeat crimes by gangs such as distraction
burglary
- Distribute advice on security, uV marker pens, signs
etc to individual households
- Act as a focus for the reporting of crimes and of any
suspicious observations
- Most information distribution is via email or the police
Ringmaster voice mail system. Doorstep deliveries are made
to those households not on email.
- Coordinating is not a great time consumer and brings other
benefits. You get to know those neighbours whom you had
not met; insurance premiums are sometimes lower in NHW areas;
and it is satisfying that you are doing your bit to frustrate
the bad guys.
If your road is not covered by Langton Green NHW,
why not volunteer now?
