Langton
Walks Group
To enjoy the surrounding countryside with congenial
company, the Langton Walks Group, meets on the first Sunday
in each month, at 2.00 pm at the car park at the new Langton Village Hall, from April through to October
for organised walks both locally and further afield. It welcomes
anyone wishing to participate and the walks are of a relaxed
easy/moderate standard which last between 21/2 to 3 hours.
Footpath
Maintenance Team
Maintenance of footpaths in the area is the responsibility
of the landowner and /or the KCC, but assistance is given
by the Speldhurst Parish footpath maintenance team which comprises
a group of volunteers led by Parish Councillor Alan Passmore.
The team liaises with landowners and KCC to ensure that footpaths
are kept in good order. Where appropriate, it organises materials
and provides labour to carry out work such as replacement
of styles, marker posts and minor path clearance etc. within
the Parish boundaries.
In a move to enable more people to take advantage of footpath walking, the KCC policy is to replace, where convenient and agreed with the landowner, the traditional wooden step-over stiles which some people have difficulty in climbing over, with etal "kissing gates".
Any person who has concerns over the condition of any of
the local footpaths or who would like to become part of the
team, should contact Alan Passmore. This also
applies if you would like to join the scheme referred to below.
“Adopt A Footpath” Scheme
An “adopt a footpath” scheme has been
formed, whereby a list has been drawn up of local volunteers
who are prepared to carry out periodic inspection of particular
footpaths assigned to them. They report on the condition of
the footpaths to the maintenance group who will then take
appropriate action if necessary.
